Just finished watching this-definitely one of the best films I've watched in the past few years. An original, and controversial work that challenges on a number of levels. Colin Farrel was outstanding in the anti-hero role of Bozz in a way that reminded me of Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest; I can see greatness in the future for him. It's amazing to me that a film like this can be virtually ignored in a year where Erin Brokovich garners a Best Picture nomination. Then again, I'm Canadian, and the film does not really flatter the U.S. military or the war effort in Vietnam. Perhaps a little too politically incorrect even for the Academy?

in this instance I don't think PC-ness had anything to do with it. I think its sheer *quality* mitigated against acceptance. Hell, it hardly got exhibited! I wrote about it here myself a couple months ago.clark
