comes this tale of a young man who breaks into peoples' homes as they are away on vacation. He lives there for a few days, takes perfect care of the premises, and leaves to find another temporary residence.
One day, he is discovered by a woman who surprises him.
This is an interesting conceit but Ki-duk Kim doesn't seem to know whether he's telling a tale with verisimilitude or fantasy. Fairly quickly, it descends into farce and then into just silliness.
I tried another Kim film, "Coast Guard" and it has the same unbelievable developments.
Actually, so does "Spring, etc."
This film has garnered some good reviews so I was surprised at how poor it is.
Avoid.
Follow Ups:
I was not happy with "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...Spring" either.
I was all superficial treatment, nothing deep.
..said it for Three Iron.Coast Guard is just a bad movie. Laughable depiction of the military.
I saw Samaritan Girl and enjoyed it. It had a mild Lynchian quality to it. More cohesive than the other two. Released roughly the same time as Spring, Summer......... He's getting better, I guess.
In the 3-Iron the first twenty minutes set an expectation which did not materialize, and it's all downhill from there. Still, I don't regret seeing it.
Then...
The director similarly failed in "Spring, etc."
There, however, it took longer.
It was fine until SPOILER the woman entered the story and then it took a terrible and unexpected turn which was very unfair to the viewer.
to seek out any of his other movies.
