Hi,
my wife and I saw the reviews and rented it some time ago.
Like you, I liked the transformation. In fact, I liked the movie
right up to the end.I didn't like the end. I wanted him to get what he came for.
He got part of it, but the real goal seemed to elude him.I got the feeling the film was speaking to some part of German culture;
perhaps as a cautionary tale.Dunno, just felt gypped.
Follow Ups:
The time on the boat and with the people was probably the free-est of his life. He found himself. What more is there? (if this were an american movie he'd have fallen in love, been asked to play in a band, brought the gusto home etc. but I think it's perfect as is)
