Well I saw this on the satellite listings and had to watch it.
Despite having a new Robert Crais book to start.
Despite my new valve monoblocks ready at the post office in the morning and needing to get a couple of amp stands ready and cables cleaned. I had to watch it.
Immediately I saw it was a television production and was a bit disappointed.
But it's a BBC production.
And they have made London look every bit as muddy, as damp and dank as it must have been.
The historical values are spot on.
And Ray Winstone is dynamite in this creeping, creepy drama.
I won't spoil anything as the basic story is well known so god... and the devil... are in the details. And details there are aplenty.
Life is as grinding, as cruel, as dull as the mud that runs in the streets.
It's a brooding film.
And its very quiet.
And quite beautiful.
Rent it, see it... and be very careful when you shave...
