That Russian movie is one of the weakest that I have ever seen, and seems to be their answer to L'Atalante. If the great French movie was made today with the sole purpose of entertaining the country's newly rich you would get this kaka. There is a barge, and there is a girl, and there is Moscow... and a large doze of baloney. Except for a couple of slightly funny moments there is no redeeming value to this piece of crap.
Stay away... do not confuse with the "Russian Ark".

amuse me, either.
But it did amuse...me!
The idea ( not new, think of the films of Jouvet ) to travel from period to periodic rooms was very romantic.
It was more an educative film maybe that a " real " film, never the less it was a good show.
The last waltz scene and exit was magnificent. Remember, the camera man said he was on the verge of physical collapse right at the end.
We watched it for the second time recently, mostly because my wife kept calling it garbage, so we wanted to set the record straight... I was far less impressed this time too.I still loved the fly through the rooms, most of which I remember quite well... the Rembrandt room, the Rafael, etc. But the characters irritated me, and the ball scene which I used to recall with fond memories, now looked kinda flat.
Well I may not see it again, why destroy a good memory...He-he..
No, more seriously I think it is absolutely a good show.
Now sometime one may get polluated from his own wife....
That is call " contagious ".....0:)
