Are we to pretend that it wasn't any one segment of humanity that did it? That it's quite horrible, but it *just happened*? That the perps' motives must not be called into question, because of their imagined racial identity?Do we no longer care about film preservation?
Or are we to deny that the thing happened at all?
And that PBS was wrong to depict the situation, and that their show should be removed as summarily from the air as discussion of it is from this board?
Follow Ups:
In fact, I went to delete my post this AM, but the thread was gone.
Without a mention of a title or any detail of the programme and certainly I don't think you mentioned PBS either, the post (or at least one sentence) seemed to be about the destruction of the Buddhas and a sentence later was imagining how the vineyards of France will be ploughed under when Muslims take over the country.
If there was some other content I must have missed it.
I do not remember any discussion of a film archive.
.
"I'm going to go pack for France."
would be perfect, nice bucket with the aeoli sauce, palm frites, their Chardonney that matches muscles perfectly............
Restaurant Name: Leon.
... although I did try a very nice one on Thursday.
I had half a kilo of local prawns for dinner last night.
Cold with lime and pepper and just one glass...
wine that matched mussels so well I thought I was in heaven. I refer to the one in Pig Alley, BTW.
His reaction to the show seemingly disabled him from even remembering what it was called.
And by the reaction here, both generally and from the moderator, I wasn't the only one who felt that.
If the discussion had opened about the programme it would have been one thing but there seemed no point apart from the racial one.
If you really want to discuss the film, you are free to do so if you leave out the speculation about what a certain group might/would do next; talk about the film, not what might/would happen in, say, France for example. Please don't bother arguing with this position.

...which was pretty explicit as to who was doing the damage.
> > I was echoing the PBS documentary
Yes, that was clear ... we chose to call the documentary 'the film.'> > but it wasn't "the film" but a whole archive
Yes, we understood that. See above.> > ...which was pretty explicit as to who was doing the damage.
If it was, you are free to say who did the damage. It is not okay to project what those who did the damage might do to another country in the future. That's not the purpose of this board and that was the problem with your approach.
