I totally agree with all of your points. Yes, the initial disclaimer was a good thing for me as well (not so much for my girlfriend though - she didn't buy it and i'm not sure i do as well)

I think the issue here is not just of animal cruelty, but the perpetual showing of animals in that context

imagine if every single time there was an dog about to get hurt in some movie some person said we can't do that - it's another living creature. what kind of affect would that have on the masses?

discounting the cruelty in this movie is simply part of the problem.

who was it that said you can judge a society by the way it treats its animals?
