FYI:
Kino recently re-issued "Commissar" (or "Komissar") on DVD --- just arrived here the other day from Amazon. I watched about half of it last night. Beautiful transfer, and the sound is top notch, too. It's a two disc set, with interviews with Askoldov and Raisa Nedashkovskaya on disc two...

Watched the rest of it, along with the interview with Askoldov. Turns out that the movie is somewhat autobiographical (even though it is based on the Grossman short story), as both his parents were victims of Stalinism, and he ended up staying with a Jewish family as a young child. Amazing story...
