..Vanishing Point was a notable presence in Grindhouse. Which I saw today.A lazy, rainy Saturday late afternoon matinee. Six people in the audience. Makes you wonder who this film was made for. I've heard that the two films may be split up because of poor attendance.
If true, so be it. But I'm glad I saw it as the "double feature" and on the big screen.

...gets my qualified approval. I was not knocked out by it. I happily go see these two directors just to stay up with them. This is a movie(X2) where presentation is the star. It bounces off the walls of brilliance and banality and it took me back in a fresh enough way to the B movie heaven of a sticky-toothed, sticky-footed childhood.
Fun. But I didn't want more. Nostalgia is not a desirable state for me.
As I said earlier, who did they make this movie for? Those old enough to appreciate the schtick probably won't get out of their home entertainment centers to see it. It's lost on the young, who have little appreciation for irony, anyway. All that's left are the hardcore. Not enough to make it pay. It'll go to DVD plenty soon.
