It is 2 am. Tired mind. So for my first diatribe against ye Matrix naysayers (hehe) let me lay on ya some quotes I agree with 300%:"The Matrix is a shamanic journey in dramatized form,
fit to stand up alongside Alice in Wonderland and destined, perhaps, to someday overthrow The Wizard of Oz as the ultimate cult-psychedelic movie. The Matrix is all this and a fair bit more, but it’s also undoubtedly not for everyone." -"The Matrix as Shamanic Journey"
http://www.wynd.org/matrix.htm"The sci-fi thriller is a veritable "Where's Waldo" of religious and mythological symbolism." -Lori Tharps "God is in the details"
http://www.ew.com/ew/features/990514/matrix/index.html"Question from Starr22: Are all the religious symbolism and doctrine throughout this movie intentional, or not?
WachowskiBros: Most of it is intentional."

I can't understand what all the fuss was about. Boring. Typical "codenames" and "codwords" and "easy crap to figure out". Not my idea of a great movie. I've seen more inventive ideas in computer games!BH
There are 3 reasons why I think people feel really strongly negative about the Matrix: (1) Keannu, (2) heavy technical content, (3) kinda cheesy.Keanu is really a Bose of film critic. I haven't personally experienced films in which he totally sucks that I had to run. While Keanu is no acting genius, I 've never seen him manage to make an ass out of himself, and given the roles that he plays -- not much character developments -- I think he's been ok.
The style of the Matrix belongs to those of John Wu and Queentin Tarantino. It has its own merits, unless people take it too seriously. It's -- as in anything -- lame once you over-interpret.
I personally find John Wu, how should I say this? ah yes, interesting. In John Wu's world, you see the confounding mixtures of truths and lies, the contraditions of peace and war, where the line between rights and wrongs is not always clear. The extreme violence. Lots of pigeons. Blond, sensitive assasins; aah, yummy... but I digress..
and you guys are brutal. Ouch! I have no idea what Who was on about, and I feel a little uncomfy coming down on the side of those who liked the movie. This in spite of the fact that I don't like Reeves, and I usually demand some credible science and no plot bloopers from a film.I think, in light of the recent quality of film-not just in this country-that I have become a Big Picture film viewer: did it conform to my minimal specs, and was I entertained. I agree that there were not a good many original ideas in The Matrix, but it worked at the entertainment level for me.
Deeper meaning? Shamanic Epic? Dude, burn you Castenada books, and stop looking to popular media for meaningful commentary on life, the human condition, the Universe, or damn well anything else.
So it has several subtexts (Christian allegory, Shamanic journey, mythological dimensions). Just because The Matrix is highly allusive doesn't necessarily make it a good film.If you want to see a good popular film that has all these things, watch Michael Apted's Thunderheart.

I use my Matrix DVD (got as present) as a doorstop.
Oh you bet.
The matrix was a movie that was akin to a song that consisted entirely of samples from other songs. They cut up story elements that made other stories great, assembled them all in anachronistic fashion, put a modern techno beat in the background, and marketed it to the rave crowd. They raped what was good from other stories/movies and attempted to bring it all together in one melting pot; hoping to create a fresh new feast for movie buffs. Instead, it's just a stale, 2 week old bucket of glurp.I only hope the sequel will not abuse the 3D camera effect. That's has gotten a bit worn with its use in commercials and all.

Lost on me and a few thousand other intelligent thinking persons. Perhaps all you know about is finance, money, hi-fi, wine and shit.Hey. I dont need this. I m out of this particularly shallow film asylum. Bye.

"We're NOT gonna take it!"
Man, I would hate to see what you say to someone who doesn't share your taste in music. Why get in a big huff? I just think there is better out there made for far less, and with less marketing involved. For example Solaris contains all of the themes talked about in the Matrix and IMHO was a beautiful movie to watch. What about THX-1138 - another fantastic one with similar themes ( the student film it was based off is good too ) How about all of the work done by some of the world's most talented sci fi writers as screenplays for Star Trek, ST Next Gen, or countless other sci fi leaning TV shows? While they might not have had the marketing, big budgets, media guys and kits of the major studios they wrote some good stuff told in half the time and with people with twice as much acting ability. Harlan Ellison? Philip K. Dick? Dan Simmons? William Gibson? Neal Stephenson ( if Snow Crash is made into a movie it will probably make the Matrix seem like Japanamation boredom), or the one I am waiting for anything by Iain Banks...boy oh boy will that be fun.http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/snowcrash.html

Why is that that no one leaves quietly anylonger?
Don't you understand that if you leave without stench, you can always come back and no one will make anything about it? Otherwise you don't look so good.
Anyway, not realy addressed at you or yor tastes in movies, you just happened to be in the wrong place at this moment - but lately there is all that sobbing going on on just about every page...
So silly...
The rest of this drivelous flick wasn't too far behind this comment.
"Never argue with a fool. People won't be able to tell the two of you apart."Aliens using people as large D cell batteries... yes, I see the theological angle already....

I thought the expression was, "Never argue with an idiot. First, they bring you down to their level, then they beat you to death with experience!"
It runs: "Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level, then beat you with experience."
... since my opponents' can't relate due to their utter lack of experience. I can only descend so low to bring them upto speed. I've delt with the mentally challenged who were more learned & educable.
