And I agree with them.
As with opera, and feel free to disagree here, the plot is a bit simple, and as has been commented, there is little character development, but I'm not sure this is any different to say 300 in this aspect. And seeing the two films relatively close together is interesting.
This isn't a small intimate film although the first half is more so, but it's all to do with big sweeping shots and the music.
I think I know what you mean: they're not sophisticated or profound.
I appreciate your insights, as usual: 300, however, may be beyond even your powers of persuasion...
... but they often come across about as complicated as pantomimes.
I'm a fan of Eyes Wide Shut.
