Mira Nair directed this complex story of a couple from India who move to the United States and raise two children. The kids try to rebel from the traditional Indian ways, dating non-Indians and poo pooing the old fshioned values oof their parents, The protagonist, named after Russion poet/writer Nickolai Gogol, even chnages his name at one point. The story follows the celebrated novel fairly closely, although the venue is moved to NYC and suburbs, rather than Boston. I think it is helpful if you have read the book in oreder to pick up some of the subtleties. Meandering in spots but overall enjoyable.

Glad you enjoyed it.
I did likewise a month or so ago. I don't think many people here have seen it. Yet.
I was quite surprised when it opened here on outer Cape Cod in a "regular" theater, thinking prior to that that I'd only get to see it in either our one "art" house or on DVD. Glad you enjoyed it as well.
