Citizen Kane makes no Emotional impact? A man powerful and rich enough that he can own anything but he realizes, on his "deathbed" that sledding on a snow day as a child is what he longs for. What he can't have.
Maybe you have to be older to experience the emotional impact. Sure, the movie slows, somewhat after the first reel but how could you be bored watching this movie? Welles? Cotton? GREAT to look at.
What more could you want?
Follow Ups:
Sorry, Lester Burnam in American Beauty gave it up for what he longed for and the film resonated with me more. I am 27...and maybe you are correct about the ERA being different from mine. I gave the film 31/2 out of 4. I liked it a lot and was not bored... I just don't think it deserves the accolades. That's OK...Casablanca is a suped up Propaganda film and neither is in the league of Schindler's List.
