In Reply to: Am I the only one who got what The Matrix was about? posted by The Who on May 06, 2001 at 14:13:20:
There are 3 reasons why I think people feel really strongly negative about the Matrix: (1) Keannu, (2) heavy technical content, (3) kinda cheesy.Keanu is really a Bose of film critic. I haven't personally experienced films in which he totally sucks that I had to run. While Keanu is no acting genius, I 've never seen him manage to make an ass out of himself, and given the roles that he plays -- not much character developments -- I think he's been ok.
The style of the Matrix belongs to those of John Wu and Queentin Tarantino. It has its own merits, unless people take it too seriously. It's -- as in anything -- lame once you over-interpret.
I personally find John Wu, how should I say this? ah yes, interesting. In John Wu's world, you see the confounding mixtures of truths and lies, the contraditions of peace and war, where the line between rights and wrongs is not always clear. The extreme violence. Lots of pigeons. Blond, sensitive assasins; aah, yummy... but I digress..
