Hi,
1) when the generals proposed dropping the Bomb on Korea; Truman's response was "You can't ask me to use those awful things again"
2) it was Goldwater who said he would use nukes in Vietnam.
3) the events leading up to the decision to drop; are worth looking at in detail... Which is all i really want to say on the subject.
Follow Ups:
Was it Goldwater or was it USAF General Curtis "nuke 'em" LeMay? Or both?
Hi,
i found this at the Business Week site...
"Barry Goldwater was outspoken and often outrageous. Republicans howled with indignation when Johnson ran a now-famous TV ad juxtaposing a freckled-faced little girl and the
mushroom cloud of a nuclear bomb -- an ad that more than hinted at Goldwater's itchy trigger finger. But Goldwater would have used nuclear bombs in Vietnam. He said so often in the
aftermath of his disastrous '64 campaign."
Thank you for the clarification, late.
