It is not one of the greatest works ever, but simply one that will keep haunting you, and that is not a small thing. There are enough memorable images and good performances to make it more than worthwhile, plus it is LOADED with social agenda, if that is your cup of tea. Sharp characters and beautiful cinematography are not something to be ignored, and perhaps "The Bitter Harvest" is this movie's close sister (the one about the Austrian farmer hiding a Jewish woman).
