Anxiously waiting to view this pic. Willem Dafoe (outstanding in "Last Temptation of Christ") and John Malkovich are two of the best around today, but this movie was a dud. Very slow moving. Poor character development. Absolutely minimal background as to why/how the movie (Nosferatu) came to be made and how Murnau comes to meet Orlock. Dafoe as Count Orlock/Max Schreck was good but could have been so much better, as could Malkovich as Murnau. Udo Kier as the producer was under-developed as well. What a let-down at the end. The film just stopped with a two second explanation by Murnau about what he wanted from the film "Nosferatu". Another 45 minutes in character and background development and this could have been a wonderful movie.
Follow Ups:
Great campy scenery chewing by both Dafoe and Malkovich. I laughed all the way through it.Maybe you guys took it too seriously? Afterall, it wasn't supposed to be a documentary.
I saw the movie several months ago at the theater and was also quite disappointed. What a waste of talent. Dafoe was extremely good but the film lacked a logical chain of events and the ending just sucked. It is a shame that they wasted Malkovich's immense talent. With these high priced stars and an interesting story you would have thought they could have done better than this.
