..we all would be buying it.Jesus, Bruce, don't tell me I HAD to put that smiley in!
In all seriousness, in the forum devoted to films, it is completely proper to discuss why we would, or would not watch particular works. So I DO have problem with certain movie makers and will not watch certain works. Actually, I will not PAY to watch any of Speilberg's films, but I will watch them for free. I refuse to support the things I abhor.
That is NOT just politics based, it is more general with me.
But I honestly just meant this to be a quick silly joke - please, please, I am not even from Australia!!!! I think we are giving it too much attention already.
So back to Clark's original question... Later we might decide to discuss the question about how our personal experiences take part in forming our opinions on things "pure art". I know that will be one peaceful discussion.
Follow Ups:
There's always something that rings somebody's bell. While I don't have any issues with Mr. Spielberg (although I don't share his politics), I do have issues with Messrs. Travolta and Cruise for their substantial support of the "church of scientology." It is not that I don't share the church's beliefs (hell, I don't know too much about what they are); it's that I don't approve of how the church has used the legal system. So, I confess to being, at best, a reluctant attendee at their films (only a very positive reivew will do).
There was a Jewish lawyer of my acquaintance (not long ago deceased) who fought in WW2 and also held sub-cabinet posts in the Truman administration. Although he could certainly afford them, he would never buy German or Japanese automobiles. It was, for him, a matter of principle.

It is simply that I do express them more directly, and you... well, I presume you are not the worst lawyer in town.
Also, your feelings towards that church are completely alien to me, as I don't know that side of their activity - so more statement for PERSONAL experiences.
And there is no question people see the same situation differently. Some Jews will not buy anything Germans, and others have moved to Germany after the war and settled there.
is my partner. He can't walk and chew gum at the same time. He either stumbles or chokes; and sometimes does both.
But I need him around to make me feel good!
I've got a couple experienced engineer coworkers that require supervision. One dude tried to cold work composites. Another tried to computer model shrink fitting one pipe over another by thermally expanding the material in the radial direction. Still another, that regularly shows up at my office whenever he wishes to print something. I could go on ...
....just my 2¢
