Has there ever been a remake that was better than the original?
Some of the great Golden Age films were remakes of movies from silent era or the early years of talking pictures. His Girl Friday was a remake of The Front Page. The Hunchback of Notre Dame(Laughton) was a remake of a silent film(Lon Chaney). Tale of Two Cities(Colman) was also a remake of a silent. If you're talking about recent remakes nothing really comes to mind although I did think the Liam Neeson version of Les Miserables was pretty good.
