I have to agree - much more enjoyable that the opening moments would have suggested. Not populated with the worlds most sympathetic characters but you end up relating to them just the same as it proceeds. And as you say, Ben is memorable to say the least...joe
Follow Ups:
It is interesting what you are sayig about the opening moments - I thought they were quite good - boy sweeping the deck, guy sun bathing, and man, that boulder - I certainly enjoyed it.Two superb actors. And just how does one play the evil? I have no idea, but one look at Ben's face leaves no doubts.
Did you see "Under the Sand" by any chance? It is being shown around the country.
I should have explained better - the sunbathing scene / close-ups had me wondering what I'd walked in to. But as you say, the boulder changed everything! And no, I havn't seen Under the Sand, I'll have to poke around and see if its around...And regarding Ben - at first you wonder how this relative pipsqueak can intimidate a lumbering giant but seeing and hearing him in action he pulls it off beutifully. And he gets more mileage out of a limited vocabluary (two or three expletives in particular) than any character in film I've seen in years...
