I just saw an article on MSN that claimed it was on DVD now. It must have just been released, cause it sure wasn't out a few weeks ago. Either that, or they're wrong (which is likely imo).I've not seen the film since college, and would love to own it on DVD. I bought "The Third Man" on DVD having never seen it before, and paid the price premium for it. I can only guess Citizen Kane will cost 80 smackers on the "deluxe" DVD, which would likely include a phone-book length "making of" manual, or else 10 extra "making of" DVD's...
IMO, "The Third Man" is not a better film than Citizen Kane (I'm of course not alone there), and I wonder if Roger Ebert's preference for it over Kane doesn't smack of emotional, subjective, indulgent sentimentality? Nobody's perfect; I admit my favorite films are born from much of those human failings...not that they aren't fine examples of a motion picture. Just that the snobs among us find them silly...well, snobs are silly.

The 2 DVD deluxe Special Edition will be available at the whopping price of... get this, ...are you ready? $29.95 msrp!!! That means you should be able to snap one of these little jewels up for close to $10 less through one of the highly competitive internet vendors like Deep Discount DVD. Note: You may wish to compare the current prices of 8 or so vendors using the DVD Price Search engine (www.dvdpricesearch.com).What isn't mentioned in the synopsis I'm linking is that this release of Welle's great masterpiece is purportedly being remastered from a pristine interpositive which was located in a European film archive. As I understand it, the original negative was destroyed in a fire in the early '70s, which means that all video versions previously available, including the excellent Criterian LD from the '80s, have been mastered from inferior elements.
So Carl, like the VISA commercial tagline: "What's in your wallet?" :o)
Cheers,

Thank you so much for the information, I will use it! I had bought "The Third Man" from 800.com, whose price was less than the larger sites.
