You've seen the trailers and teasers. In fact, the trailer has a scene that was deleted but used to advance the plot....
Langella is a strange man who delivers a box to Diaz and Marsden with a note saying he would return the next day to get it. The box has a button on top and if pushed gives the married couple a million dollars but causes a death somewhere in the world. Intriguing. They push the button and nothing seems to happen..yet it does across town. A murder.
Langella comes to retrieve the box and the no-longer-happy-couple tries to give the money back. He won't take it and cautions them to leave well enough alone. They start to ask questions and strange things start to happen. From a weirded out baby sitter to a library full of near zombies. Good, things are now strange.
Marsden, who works for NASA, is told Langella works for the NSA and was struck by lightening a year before and died only to comeback to life as something more than human. Now we are getting weird.
Weirdness follows weirdness and we finally have to draw our own conclusions as to who Langella's real employers are: angels or aliens?
It's your decision.
One oddity, the film was set in 1976 which meant they had to dig up a lot of wardrobe and set decorations to fit the era. Why not now?

...a story that was adapted for the 1980's version of the Twilight Zone.
A review I read said it may have been fine for a 30 minute show, but after that long, the movie goes to hell.
On At the Movies tonight, one said skip it and the other, who listed Mullholland Drive (one of my favorites) as one of his 10 best films of the decade, liked it and recommended it.
They mentioned the 1970s wallpaper.
Sounds like you liked it - I think I'll wait for the DVD.
