This is my all-time favorite film and it's rare to even find people who've seen it. so far every one of my friends i've forced to watch this one has come away placing it in their top 5. peter falk, john cassavetes, written and directed by elaine may but in a VERY cassavetes style. as dark as dark can be but with such disturbing humor it rattles your nerves. if i remember correctly elaine may's name was dirt in hollywood for almost 10 years because of this film which the studio refused to release for a while. i think it ultimately came out in '76. this is film as high-art. one reviewer wrote of the final sequence 'one of the most harrowing images that modern american film has given us.' i'd say that applies to the whole movie. anybody seen it?
