Had to do with Marquis de Sade during his imprisonment in a French asylum. Starred Geoffrey Rush,Joaquin Phoenix,Michael Caine,Kate Winslett. I liked it. Very nicely done, but didn't cross the line into that "WOW GOOD FILM" category. Any other thoughts ?Steve
Follow Ups:
It was all about sex, insanity, prison, and maybe love. The depravity could have been much better than just the necro seen. This should have been a X rated movie to really explore what was hinted at. That might have at least gotten it a future cult film status. As it was I think it was a great cast, crew, sets, and maybe the screenplay was too, but I was not impressed, excited, or revolted enough.

Wildly off target Hollywoodesque attempt at European art cinema; comparing this to a film like "Prosperos Books" by a Director like Peter Greenaway (OK, he's dead) will show that there is a great deal more to creating dimension in Cinema than simply having a budget, a script and great actors.
"Quills" is 2- dimensional formulaic drivel bound for instant and deserved obsurity. Money back and two 1/2 hours of my life, please!
and pretentious “quasi-artistic” script.
Too bad. Could be a great film .
