The only two scenes shot in L.A. (as opposed to Mississippi) were the scene where the car drives out of the barn as the paddy wagon full of ammo blows up and the Klan rally. About two weeks before the Klan scene was filmed I lost a bet with a freind of mine who was in the Art Dept. on that film and I had to play a dancing Klansman in the (look at the center of the Klan rally and you'll see six of us arm in arm doing a kick dance--one of 'em is me!). I got to be a dancing extra for four cold nights in October at the Disney Ranch , which is about 50 miles north of LA in the hills. Horrible experience, but at least they paid me $150/day (which I donated to charity).I think you're way off the mark about the boys making fun of people. Most of thier films are FUNNY and SMART. And the two that aren't funny (Blood Simple and Miller's Crossing) are chilling crime dramas.
"I'm a Dapper Dan man. I don't use FOP!"
Kills me every time.
Follow Ups:
I'll check out that scene again on my "O Brother..." DVD. BTW, I'm assuming that the last comment about being *way off mark* was intended for Clark, because you and I seem to be in complete agreement about the Coen Brother's films. FWIW, I consider all of their dramas & comedies brilliant, creative and refreshingly atypical filmfare.Cheers,
AuPh
