I almost missed this one at Block Buster, as one copy of it was overshadowed by a handful of 'Freddy Got Fingered'.Anyway, I thought it was a good movie, about love among men, love of men and dogs, a comparative depiction of men and dogs, in the setting of Mexico. Overall, a good film.
Its style is not original; its very similar to another foreign film, 'Three Seasons', a Vietnamese film. They both portray eloquently different lives converging to a point, all directed by the social and cultural flow; it's like one can't resist the flow dictated by the second law of thermodynamics. One is very westernish, the other oriental. Though both are colorful, one is contrasty and bold and the other is liquid (probably overly syrupy to some) and musical
If you're openminded and enjoy different cultures, you should see both.
Follow Ups:
What I liked most about this film is its sense of urgency. There is a lot of life in this movie. As well, Three Seasons is not really a Vietnamese film. It is made by an American of Vietnamese origin.

I saw this movie when it was in the theathers. The movie is good and the music of the music is just as good as the movie. It is different to most American movies excepting movies like the fight club or similars. Very dark and real.
