Well, neither the director nor the lead actor are exactly in the forefront of the movie art. Did they deliver less than their usual level?
Follow Ups:
I must disagree about the director and actor. The Shawshank is one of my favorites and I consider it first rate. Also, I think Jim Carrey is the most talented guy in Hollywood. The buzz about his performance was that it was Oscar worthy. I consider his work in Man on the Moon and (don't shoot me) Cable Guy absolutely amazing. He certainly deserved an Oscar for Man on the Moon. His performance in the Majestic was adequate, but a big disappointment to me. I felt he was capable of even much more.
Many aspects of the film were disappointing as well. So compared to the Shawshank, I would say that the director was a little off as well.
Laurie Holden is a stunner and jumps off the screen. A fresh new face.
