In Reply to: "Moulin Rouge".... did you like this one? posted by ERG on December 23, 2001 at 13:45:08:
I just watched it on DVD. It's a very unusual film. I was highly impressed that they could make such a visual spectacular. It takes an open mind and a willingness to just go with it -- some of the silly slapstick French characters are just so silly and so far over the top. It goes from stylish to a bad pre-school special. It was clever how they used modern songs and lyrics in the lines. Nicole Kidman was gorgeous.
Ultimately, I never found it that involving. Apparently it's Rosie O'Donnell's favorite movie -- not that surprising. Maybe she's in love with Nicole.
Follow Ups:
Rosie is great! She's spunky, animated, and speaks her mind! I live in the deadpan midwest, and people here I often mistaken for deceased. There must be a factory that cranks out boring midwesterners. I welcome Rosie's bubbly, high octane personality and we should have more like her in our world. Regarding 'Moulin Rouge', if you have a closed mind (i.e. most people), you will dislike it. If you open your puny minds, and can appreciate beautiful filmmaking and grand visual artistry, kudos to you.
Liking a movie or a talk show host is an individual taste. It's not necessarily a matter of having a closed mind.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass on this one.
