In Reply to: Re: Just saw David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive"... posted by Rob on December 24, 2001 at 04:34:04:
I'm a big fan of Lynch's better films and such high hopes for it following all the glowing reviews. "Blue Velvet" was surreal, sensual, dangerous, and thrilling at the same time. All of those factors worked together seamlessly to create a cinematic atmosphere that had never been seen before. "Mullholland" has flashes of that, but the rest doesn't seem to jell. It's not a horrible film, just unnecessarily long and unfocused. It will leave you thinking for hours(or days)afterwards. In fact, it takes a while to put all the pieces together in order to figure out what really happened.
I guess a good summation would be that I really don't know whether to recommend the film to friends or not, it could go either way. Unlike "Blue Velvet", which I knew I could remcommend to everyone.
Follow Ups:
Well dark one, I will go for it as soon as it's in the cinema here. It has been a long time I could think for days about a movie, which to me usually is a good sign:-)Thanks,
Rob
It's long, but the more I discuss it with others, the better it gets.
