I am going to. I actually have a reasonable respect for Sean Penn.
I've really liked the films that Sean Penn has done. In the Pledge, there's some great cameo roles and Nicholson gives a wonderfully sombre performance, his best in years, I reckon.
The problem with J.Nicholson is,he can NOT adapt with the films, they have to adapt ...to him...but then ! they can be furious!!
I am not sure THIS is the problem, he is simply too big and tends to dominate. But recall his early great films - I particularly love the "Profession: Reporter", what a treat! Good actor in good hands...
Did you see The Pledge,Patrick? I think this is one film where he doesn't make a parody of his own acting...he's really doing the film, I think, as Sean Penn (his mate, of course) wants him to.
No Jeff,as I read negative review of it...and do not particulary like S. Penn as he is trying to hard NOT to be Hollywoodian( thought I like is rendition at " Up in the Villa " and in The Thin Red Line "
So I will ordered " The Pledge "
And the word- Parody - was in the direction of my feeling. He always plays himself-
