You are right, the Matlin Guide does now have "Le Dernier Metro" -
1980, but does list" Le Dernier Combat"-1984. Have you seen the 1937
film, "Pepe le Moko"? Opinion? An American version came out the next
year in the film "Algiers". Both films are well thought of, with
the French original receiving somewhat higher praise. A musical
remake came out in 1948 entitled "Casbah", it was also rated well.
"Peke le Moko" and "Algiers" are available on video, but not "Casbah".

Opinion? A very well photograph picture,Jean Gabin,had the lead,very dark,you would say a film noir, human tragedy, J.Duvuvier was the regisseur ( direction)
A classic-one to look at-I did NOT like it-but that is another story.
The remake,I did even not was aware of them.
But you know.beware of the remake....

Are you familiar with Feuillade's escapist serials, "Fantomas" and
"Judex" near the end of World War I? I found Rohmer's "Pauline at
the Beach" enjoyable in the early 1980s. Want to see De Filippo's
"The Seven Deadly Sins"-1952; an Italian-French production; it has
7 episodes, each one illustrating a sin, plus one "unknown" epispode thrown

The seven deadly sins,when it came out ,in Nice, France and later on the tv,Idid not like it very much,as I can recall...

Ford for his Humanity,DeSicca..the bicyclet Thief,for the shame it generate in every father in us...F.
