Please help settle a freindly argument. I say the film industry was located in Fort Lee, New Jersey, near NYC (they used to have studios there before Hollywood), and a freind of mine says it was always in California, since film's inception. Who is correct?
Follow Ups:
Edison, who invented the kinetoscope, established the first shooting stages for movies. They were built on huge turntables that swung with the sun, so as to use all available daylight in New Jersey. Before long the New York crowd -- let's leave the description there -- muscled into the act and soon, to avoid the long arms of Edison's patent attorneys, moved as far away as they could. And in CA they successfully subverted the patents.clark
