I prefer "Donnie Darko" over "Mulholland" by miles in nearly every aspect, especially running time. For some reason, it really seemed to grab me, although it could have been my full belly of sushi, sake, and Sapporo :o)

For one thing, I'm an insufferable Scifi geek and anything with wormhole/timetravel in it is bound to strike a note. Also, I found many of the most awkward high school moments to be painfully realistic. But, you are right in saying they should have taken more time to establish Donnie and his screwed up family life.

Anyway, I'll email you with my thoughts on what the actualk storyline was.
