a lot of them are great yet disturbing. Another good one with Gong Li is Raise the Red Lantern. I don't think your wife would like this either, lol.Another worth mention is Farewell My Concubine.
Follow Ups:
Don't forget these, if so, you miss something.Classic (5 stars)
- Happy Together : directed by Wong Kar-Wei, the movie the most
impressive visually.
- Red cherry : 1995 #1 chinese box office and for good reason. Set in Russia during the 2nd world war. The plot of Schinler's List sucks (lack) in
comparison even if it's well directed.
- Temptation of a monk: one of the best movie ever made. Similar to
Braveheart, but much better and ultraviolent.Very good (4 stars)
- Firecracker
- King of Mask
- Shadow Magic( 2 most known chinese director)
Chen Kaige
- The Emporor & the Assasin
- Farewell My Concubine
- Tempress Moon
Zhang Yimou
- Ju-dou
- Not One Less
- Raise the Red Lantern
- Red Shorgum
- Shangai Triad
Yes, I think we have seen most of her films. Ju Dou is perhaps the most beautiful. My wife liked the Lantern, actually.
The Concubine was I thought too tedious.
One think I still just can't take is the Chinese opera. I'll take Verdi any day.
