Let's not forget the Thin Man series, most all of which were
quite witty and urbane, and always enjoyable. Mike.
A rather obscure movie called "Star of Midnite" with Powell as an attorney/sleuth and Ginger Rogers as the pretty and witty daughter of a friend. Together they exchange barbs and solve a murder. Not as much pizazz as "The Thin Man" series. Then there is "The Ex Mrs. Bradford" where amateur sleuth Dr. Bradford (Powell) teams up with his ex-wife (Jean Arthur) to solve a series of murders at the race track. Sophisticated comedy-mystery with very witty dialogue. Thirdly is "The Kennel Murder Case" where debonair detective Philo Vance (Powell) proves that a clear cut case of suicide is actually murder.
Yep, those are very enjoyable. A non-Thin Man movie with William Powell and Myrna Loy that's pretty good is "Love Crazy". They were a great team.
