Granted it was a different time, we all lived in, but why aren't more subtle, compelling movies being made like this one. It seems all that is there is mindless entertainment or remakes. I'm sure there is SOME worth in "American Pie", but why does "Rushmore" seem closer to telling us something more about ourselves, than totally mindless stuff like, say "Oceans 11" ?

There is a problem with the insightful movie - it doesn't make money for its producers. The bucks are in the fantasy, action, and teen flick genres. Good dramas are far between.
