Why are they elevating "Traffic" to "classic film" status here ?I could see releasing the British Tv version, but this only serves to give Soderbergh some more undeserved credibility. It must make him feel good to be "in the ranks" of Renoir, Eisenstein, Bergman, Fellini, Carne, Antonioni, etc.
This is another quirky Criterion release...up there with "Armageddon" and "The Rock". What possesses them to do remasters of junk movies like these, but not pursue other films that deserve more attention...genuine classics !
Follow Ups:
I too find it hard to believe that the very same people would choose The Rock and The Grand Illusion.Do you think they are propping up their bottom line with the likes of the Traffic? I doubt they make much money on true classics.
While it DOES put Soderbergh where he most definitely doesn't belong even in his wet dream, if it keeps the company going... well, that would be the lesser of two evils, don't you think so?
I guess there is nothing wrong with wanting to have a successful business, and if that's what they have to do, I wish them well.As long as they deliver the classics with amazing extras, I will just ignore the "Traffic" release and look forward to the 3DVD set of "Monterey Pop"!
What the heck..they could deliver The great Shit in VIStavision as long they do THAT job!!! o, friend look only to The Seven Samourai MARVELOUS a PEARL is come all directly from good ol ´ Skakes....to Flaubert for the humanism to the GREAT John Ford....
