Being a huge fan of the old one, to the point where I used to skate with an orange shirt with a big black '6' on it, I went to see the new one.Take the worst of a Tom Clancy novel, combine it with the absolute worst of Perils of Gwendolyn, remove the sexploitation and leave only the violence, and there you have the new one.
Bleah. $8.50 wasted. It even spoiled the taste of the popcorn.
The plot was ok, although completely unlike the original. The cast was mostly ok. The editing was choppier than (*&(&. The continuity was awful, the female lead's scar moved around her face for instance. The violence was endless (well, Rollerball IS ultra-violent) to the point of detracting from the plot, and we didn't need to SEE it, ...
And the stereotypes. Oh man, the stereotypes. Somebody give the director a white sheet and a hood, man. :(
On a scale of 1 to 10 it's a zero.

Follow Ups:
I'm also a fan of the Caan Rollerball. It's a great flick. As for the "remake" I would say you were too kind.I'd say it was "less than zero" but that would insult the title of a pretty good film. It makes Gone In 60 Seconds look like King Lear by comparison. Rollerball must surely be the worst film so far this year.
Of course, wait till next week and producers will probably roll out something even worse - if that's possible.
it's currently on the homepage of my review site. The film can be criticised in one word, incomprehendable.
.
I've no trouble with that idea. It was, just, well, almost NOTHING can ruin a bag of popcorn, and that movie did.

I'd love to be in the pitch meeting for these remakes...how could ANYONE screw up something like a remake ?
