In Reply to: Everyone ready for "The Time Machine" remake ? posted by mikenyc on March 02, 2002 at 07:55:54:
I remember seeing the 1960 George Pal Time Machine when it first came out. I was about 7 and thought it was about the coolest movie I'd ever seen. I've watched it many times since and still like it very much, even though it does take great liberties with the H.G. Wells story.I will see the remake, hoping it won't be yet another waste of $8.50 and two hours. I don't mind SFX, as long as they don't get in the way of the story.
I'll give you my review as soon as I've seen it.
Follow Ups:
I read an article in the paper today saying that they apparently jettisoned most of the class warfare stuff and have made this into a love story with a lot of neat-o digital effects. Great, sounds like the PEARL HARBOR approach. It's being directed by H.G. Wells' great grandson, Simon Wells.Todd
The reviewer in the Milwaukee paper today completely trashed this film and gave it one star. I won't go into the details for the benefit of those of you who are hell bent on seeing it.Todd
Add Ebert to that list, too. And I had such high hopes for it. What's next, a remake of "War of the Worlds"? Let's hope "Resident Evil" delivers the goods.

Who watches this crap "they" are producing they are producing these days ? What are the actual demographics here ?Granted that most of the new audience doesn't know it's a remake, it doesn't take that much of an effort to rent a copy.
