I haven't seen it, and don't particularly like Fey's sense of dissing life. So I'm wondering if this isn't a bad mix in this film?
I'm sure that this point has been considered in the script and directing -- and that I'm overreacting -- but I'm not the only doofus out here wondering about this. Does it work well? There isn't much comedy to be found these days in the Middle East unless it goes to the absurd or insane side.
Remember 'MASH'? 'Apocalypse Now' didn't get me riled nor any other VN vet. WTF shows the crazy and serious side of war zone denizens. I liked it but you may not. With cable you can turn if off in the first seven minutes and be done with it. Fey stretches a bit in this role.
My favorite line: "Embrace the suck and go the fuck forward." I think Colonel Billy Bob said that one.
This is based on the experiences of a woman reporter who became an Afghanistan junkie. Keep that in mind as it is not intended as a non-stop comedy sketch even though Lorne Michael's co-produced it.
