It is driving me nuts. I am drawing a complete blank on "La Truite" with Isabelle Huppert and Daniel Olbrychski. I know I have seen it and liked it, but I can't recall anything about it.imdb is not helpful - it has nothing on the story. I know I will rent it again but in the meantime I would have to suffer. At the dinner last night with few more hard-core Russian movie nuts no one could help either.
Follow Ups:
My memory of it is shot, but I think it goes like this - Huppert lives in a fishing village, gets sick of fish and gay husband, leaves, goes on to Paris[?], fucks her way to the top of corporate ladder, reflects, goes back to breeding fish with a new lover in the Far East[Japan?]. Correct me if I messed it up. It's been a while.
Isabelle screwing someone? Nah... she would never do THAT. :-))))))))))))))))))) She is good girl. That vaguely rings the bell.
Did you see her in "Coup de torchon"? Ah, what a treat! And Philippe!!!! She seems to be unstoppable, making films like making love - several films each year. OK, so it is NOT like making love... for some of us.
I looked it up. Bertrand Tavernier. Which other films of his do you like? I think I only saw Round Midnight and it was cat doodoo mixed with fortified cheese and left in the direct sunlight on a hot summer day, then repackaged and fed to eager world audiences.
Love is probably not the right word here, as I don't think I trully "love" any of his films that I have seen - not too many really. But that one was memorable, and I would mention a couple more. "La Vie et rien d'autre" was I thought interesting, albeit bordering on too a sentimental melodrama. I think it stayed on *this* side of corny, but I suspect it might not be your cup of tea. Phillippe Noiret though is a darling there, and he is BIG actor.
"La Passion Béatrice" is something compoletely different. To many men Julie Delpy represent the rawest of the raw sex appeal, and in this one she is beyond raw, she drips with it. The film is riveting in large part due to another marvelous performance of that terrible French man - the Mr. Evil reincarnation himself, who made us all shiver with horror and bite our nails in "The Vanishing" - none else as Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu... who can forget THAT diabolical face?
