Everyone in the theater stayed to watch the film credits roll to a conclusion. And the easter eggs really seemed to be part of the movie in a post plot sort of way. I recommend staying for the entire length of the film credits.
About the movie, this one differs from the first because it has to, I think. The first episode (GG1) is an origins movie in that the Gardians become a team by the end of that adventure. The 2nd movie (vol.2) is more about the team adjusting to the new meanings of their existance. Lots of self study and introspection is going on with all of the characters. Touchy feely stuff.
These movies are an odd mix of extreme violence combined with slap-stick humor and a large dose of crass commentaries that never become profane.
I saw it 3D Imax. I recommend this version. The 3D effects ranged from the very good to eye-popping at times. The CGI was beautifully done. The big screen is the best way to see it. When this one comes out on BD, the smaller screens in our homes won't offer the same level of impact.
re: boomer music. I got the feeling that this movie was 'engineered' for us boomers. More than just the music.
I really did enjoy the combination of music and illustration when Star Lord's father takes the group to his home planet of EGO and then the musical background segues into Geo. Harrison's "My Sweet Lord", while at the same moment the set design on screen showed a distinct spiritual motif we'd associate with India in the best most aesthetic sense.
Wonderful visuals. The plot was enough for me.
