As much I as enjoy Korean movies, Villainess was like watching 2 separate movies, one action-packed thrill ride and a second movie filled with ridiculous character/plot developments. Whenever the action ended and story/romance started, I wanted to fast forward.
Still, there's enough here for action fans to enjoy and kudos to the main actress and actor who had to train hard to shoot action and fight scenes for the sake of the movie.
For my tastes, some better balanced Korean action movies:
The Chaser

The Yellow Sea

New World

I Saw The Devil

Follow Ups:
Hi Jon - Thank you for the recommendations and I like Korean cinema too -much appreciated.
Some of your insights were commonly shared in review sections and I can see how the non-linear backstory interspersed with action might not be to everyone's liking.
That said, to me, I appreciated the action more so - because it wasn't hitting me over the head constantly (like so many Hollywood cape movies) and as far as the characters being "ridiculous" - ha ha! I'm with you there! But I saw it as Anime based cinema more then a believable drama - so I gladly went along for the ride.
Thanks for your post and your point of view - I'll get on your movie references as soon as I can.
Have a great day!
