Just got through viewing this movie scripted by Billy Bob Thornton.Great cast all around, especially Bill Paxton and Billy Bob! Extremely well crafted story and menacing characters !
Anyone else see it ?
Follow Ups:
Twice, in the cinema. Very good, powerful film, and don't underestimate Carl Franklin's contributions. One of the best American movies of the nineties. Thank god for independent films.Hehe, The Hidden made my all time favorite "cheese" list far below.
Other great (and I mean great!) movies that are undeservedly forgotten: "The Hidden", "The Vanishing" (the original), "Diva". Billy Bob has never been better than in "One False Move". Cynda is a better actress than Halle B, IMHO. She should have gotten at least a nomination for OFM. The African-American actor who played the knife fetishist also deserves a career. The detective, also A-A, similarly was excellent. But,hey, Hollywood is a racist place. Look at John Lone. "The Last Emperor" won lots of Oscars, but the main actor was ignored. Morgan Freeman and Samuel Jackson have been stiffed for years, for many roles. How ironic Denzel won it for a crummy movie, playing a character that Morgan F or Sam J have years ago! Of course, Denzel deserved it for several roles over the years. I'll ramble a little more: does anyone deserve it less than the Aussie gym rats (Crowe and Gibson)? Oh well. Such is fame...Lotsa great musicians/groups from the sixties, seventies toil(ed) in obscurity.
Yep, had this on Laser disk and recently bought the DVD.
I think this made Billy Bob's career, and it's certainly one of Paxton's very best. The script is so real life, like a peek into a actual people's lives.
And finally, yes it was menacing, all the way through. I wonder what ever happened to the girl? Cassandra Wilson I think. Never saw her again after this.
Cynda Williams has been working every year since the film, but what I guess can be called small, independent films. Kind of low profile. Here's a link...

Well, maybe her best. I really havent seen her ANYWHERE else to make a judgement. It's at least her most accessible for exposure to the public. It's a genuine shame that socalled "independent" or "black" films dont get the distribution. One has to "take a chance" and shell out money for the video, if you want to see them. Once in a while they are on IFC or Bravo...if youre lucky.
I've found that FLIX, only recently, has been a very good source for obscure US films of the sixties, British films of the late fifties early sixties. Lots of early Jon Voight too. There is a great one they are re-running lately called "The Revolutionary" that has Robert Duvall and Seymour Cassell.
I have been "getting into" the MGM DVD "Soul Cinema Series" of what are popularly called BlackExploitation Films of the sixties and seventies. Lots of Pam Grier, for sure...but others like Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Issac Hayes! At least it's something !
Where is a Black Film Cable Channel to give exposure to the derth of seminal films by Melvin Van Peebles, Moses Gunn, etc. ? Spike Lee isnt the only black film director on the planet...but it sure seems so some times, doesnt it ?
