I dont know if that is a contradiction or not (affordable, Musical and A-V) but my web quest to find a replacement for my yamaha RXV490 has left me with more questions that answers. The NAD sounds good but may have serious reliability problems, the Arcam is built in the same factory right next to the NAD (same problems?) the Outlaw is new so there is no long term info on reliability. I'm thinking maybe the Nak AV-8 or 10.I'm a music lover (ALL types) and 50/50 music and HT. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Denon is a good choice for an AV Receiver. I think that in general terms Denon is regarded as more musical than others in the price range.

I recently got a Pioneer VS710 receiver for about $270.00 Best Buy and it meets all of my needs. Hear the 810 and 850 models are better but for the price I am very satisfied.
Thanx for the input, checked out the Denon and it seems to be all discrete components, pretty rare among Japanese units at this price point. Found out that Nakamichi has dropped their AV line and has (?) filed for bankruptcy.
I, too, bought the Denon 3802 after reading the reviews on audioreview
com and couldn't be happier with the sound. Hooked up to M&K THX
LCR speakers and subwoofer and a Sony DVP7700. Incredible sound!Check it out!
You can look at the Denon 3802 which has gotten some very good reviews. I have it and am completely satisfied for a mid-fi setup.
Also know the feeling of confusion, went through it trying to decide on a receiver a few months ago.
I found Ecoustics helpful in checking for reviews to help make a decision.
