thinking retiring 6 year old adcom proc. to the EAD.I have heard from some people that thier customer service is not very good.
Has anyone dealt with this company direct?
How is the reliability of thier processor/pre?
Recent streak of bad luck with my gears, I just want to know how they are to deal with in case of the equipment break-down.

The build quality of all EAD products I've seen is very impressive. I don't think anyone can critise their parts quality or design. Their coax inputs are especially impressive - - built like a tank.They did have a problem with the Theatermaster's LCD display pannel - - some whined fairly loudly. Mine did, then died and had to be replaced. The original remote (not designed or built by EAD) also was buggy. I understand that it has been replaced by a different unit. I've never heard of any other problems with EAD equipment.
As for customer service, I think they're as good as any other company. When I had my Ovation in for repairs the one time, they turned it around reasonably quickly, and communicated with me during that time as to other items I wanted done (specifically, I asked if they could swap the ST glass input with a coaxial input, which they were willing to do). I was satisfied overall with the company, its products and service. They are a little strange about shutting down their operations to give everyone a vacation for a month or so, but you know, I'd love to work for a company that would offer me that kind of a break.
If your considering EAD, I don't think you'll be unhappy. Course, there are other companies with products in the same price range with good performance. Usually they differ as to the specific features offered. For example, Parasound has an interesting preamp/pro, with some features not in EAD's, as does Proceed's AVP.
It's wonderful having so many great products to chose between.
