Does it exist?
I've little doubt that eventually the trilogy will be available on DVD. I've also little doubt that it won't be until Lucasarts reworks it yet again to try to persuade those who forked out for it on VHS and LD to buy it again on DVD. Who knows when this will happen? If you really can't wait, there are plenty of used Laserdisc players available cheap and you can get a mint used copy of the SE trilogy LD for about $250 on ebay, or less (great deal, no?). The investment in the LD player won't be wasted as there are a ton of great movies on LD that aren't available on DVD, and may never be. I prefer the original Star Wars versions, myself, and got the THX remasters for $10.00 each on LD from Ken Cranes.

. . . proposed by the "DVD Savant" is that Lucas and Spielberg are waiting for DVDs to revert to the rental pricing of VHS tapes so they can get much larger royalties. Somehow that makes a lot of sense - the money motive, rather than the artistic motive. IMHO
Not yet, and don't hold your breath for them to be released any time soon. From what I understand, Lucas wants to wait until Dolby EX becomes more easily accessible in home systems before he releases these spectacular films. I disagree with this line of thinking completely. I'm too much of a fan to wait--bring it on!!
Lucas was originally one of the people who supported DIVX, but even then he made it clear that they wouldn't be released for some time. He has said that he indends DVD (as a digital format) to be the final repository for the movies. What hasn't been made clear is if he intends to do any further work on them before releasing them to DVD. As well he has said that most likely all 6 movies will be released at the same time, meaning at least 5 years until the other two are finished and go out of the theatres
