A friend of mine has all Sony equipment. He just bought a Sony DVD 530.
His experience is as follows:
DVD direct into TV, no problem
DVD via '94 Sony VCR --pass through or record mode, picture distorts
periodically
DVD via new Sony digital camcorder: pass through is ok. Trying to tape,
get message 'copy inhibited'
Dvd via old Zenith VCR: no problemThe symptoms point to Sony having implemented a copy protect scheme.
On the VCR this seems to affect a pass through signal as well as
record, while on the newer camcorder only record is inhibited. Is this a common thing, or a peculiarity with Sony?
thanks

Also, some DVD software doesn't have the "flag" (e.g. Troma's films, Manga Japanimation like "Ninja Scroll", Short Cinema Journals).
I think most DVD machines have the Macrovision hardware built into them and it is turned on by a flag encoded in the software (if the software company paid for the license to use the copy protection).
