I am building a new house and plan on recessing the TV in the wall. I'm not sure of the exact models but they are between 50-56" and cost between $2,400-$2,800. I liked the looks of the Mitsubishi 55" Platinum series they had on display the best, so what I really wanted to know is how the Hitachi's and Toshiba's in this price range and size compare(reliability, features, picture after adjusting, etc...) and I'm open to other manufacturers and models in the $3,000 or under with 50-56" screens. Thanks for any suggestions, Matt.

Hometheater magazine just had a huge 8 TV faceoff two months ago in there magazine. The Toshiba did very well the Mitsubishi on the other hand did kind of poorly. You can check out the article at hometheatermag.com It should be somewhat helpful. But whatever looks best to you is what you should get. By the way if you want HDTV you may want something with a built in tuner, also a DVI input and maybe a firewire input so your set will be future proof.Good luck,
Floyd
Dollar for dollar, I don't think Toshiba can be beat for RPTVs. The Mitsubishis are nice too, as are the Pioneers, but I think Toshiba offers a lot more for the money. Either way, stay away from Hitachi.
Thanks for the info. I believe the Mitsubishi was ranked poorly mainly because of the preset settings from the factory and a bit of red push. They seemed to love the picture clarity and the way they talked, they thought it was a good choice if you were planning on having it calibrated.
I like the Mitsubishi because is has a 64 point manual convergence setting the other use an automatic convergence that to my picky eyes new is quite right...
