http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132128Madrigal can kiss my ass. Assuming the pricing info in the link is correct, on top of whatever you've got in your AVP, the full tilt factory upgrade will cost you the grand total of $4400 +shipping and will take 4 weeks!!!!! for them to turn it around. In some cases that means an AVP2 will have cost its owner an absurd $9900, according to my math.
I should've bailed when I saw what Proceed did to the PAV/PDSD owners. I knew better. Again, Madrigal can kiss my ass.
Follow Ups:
Hi all,I had one and sold it. Even though I lost quite a bit, I'm happy to be off the wagon. I have nothing against the AVP machine. I think it's a fine sounding machine and with the upgrade it will a very good unit. But Madrigal politics regarding the pricing really sucks!!! What will be the next future upgrade cost? You have to think about the long term value of this machine and the more it goes it's getting and getting more expensive. Me can't afford it.
Regards
This is not good news. I once owned the PAV (used) and eagerly anticipated the upcoming PDSD which I thought at the time would set me back another $1k or so. We all know now that the PDSD costs a lot more than $1k - think it is around $4-$5k. Anyway, I quickly sold my PAV as I didn't want to get stuck with a box that didn't support the newer digital surround decoders. You might really want to consider selling your AVP and going with something else. After all, you may have problems later selling the AVP in the future due to the high upgrade costs. Still can't believe that they didn't outfit the AVP with high quality 24-bit DACs on all channels.
but you are right, It's gotta go, it's just a matter of when. Unfortunately, the price on the things is in the shitter. Audiogon 6 months ago, $2750; 3 months ago, $2400-2500; last week, one for $1900 shipped, plus a bunch of goodies, and the next day one for $1700 shipped.
Your link is no good. But the e mail I received from Madrigal today indicated that the upgrade would cost $2,500 if done by a dealer, and $2,800 if done by Madrigal. That's maybe $2,000 less than the amount you quoted.
Six channel analog input option, add $1000 to your figures.Six channel analog input option, add $1300 if Madrigal intalls it.
New faceplate with AVP2 logo add $300.00, factory only install.
$2800 factory upgrade + $1300 for the 6ch. factory upgrade + $300 for the face plate =$4400.
Just checked the link, works for me.
Assuming you paid the retail $5500 for the AVP, then $4400 for all the upgrades, $9900. Then you still got only three balanced outs, no component switching, a company that has a lousy record in terms of support (PAV/PDSD) and takes forever to deliver even software upgrades (24/196, almost a year late).
Or, you could start over with a new or slightly used Lexicon MC-12B for say, $7000.
